Welcome to Firefox.
This week we will be learning about Firefox. One the more famous browsers that are currently around. You may be thinking to yourself why would I want to learn another program? Well our new email system that we have in place now works best in the Firefox browser.

Ooooo...I just added "glowy green" as my theme...makes me REALLY want it to be summer. I went to tools-add ons-get themes and found glowy green on the page. After trying to set it I discovered that particular version only works with Thunderbird. Soooo, I went to the list on the right of the page that lists other add-ons by glowplug and found a version of glowy green that works with firefox. I installed it and restarted Firefox. Of course, now the rest of my desktop and homepage clashes. So, I spent a few minutes resetting my desktop to a more attractive theme. I like to use the RPL Google Partner page as my homepage, so I think i'm stuck with the RPL Maroon/pink clashing with the lovely green firefox theme. I'll get over it, I'm sure...Anyway. Thanks! It was kind of fun and only took me about 10 minutes to do week 2.
I too chose a green theme the color is very soothing. I basically followed the directions on Tech.bites.com and registered for the newsletter at the same time.

I didn't mean to be anonymous, but I couldn't get my comment to publish. This was my end result. I'm still happy with the color.
oops just had to register.
I tried 5 or 6 before I found one I could live with. I'm using Aeon Clouds. It's restful. Green was way too green. It's fun trying various ones.
I really liked Road Sign when I saw the sample, but once it was installed it didn't look so clever--just changed a few icons (back, forward, refresh, stop & home) to road signs. Then I tried Aeon Big, thinking it might be a good choice for my husband at home since it's intended for folks who don't see so well. The change was much more dramatic, but since I don't have a computer that's exclusively mine at work, and the large icons cut into the already small amount of usable space on the monitor I most often use, I changed it back to Road Sign. I found I had to go the the website and read the instructions--and even write them down and refer to them as I was doing the changes. So this old dog may be able to learn new tricks, but slowly. Wouldn't Judy have loved Cats? PE
I've explored Firefox thoroughly before, and also Safari, which has the quickbar as well. They are both wonderful. Many of the things can be done in IE, though, and I still prefer it over other browsers. I will continue using IE, knowing that in time they will offer all the "innovations" the others do. In addition a number of web sites come in better in IE, and I have to be ruled by practical considerations sometimes. Other than that I'm all about the fun, and I'm glad people are feeling better at their workstations - it's part of productivity and workplace happiness...dare I say workplace joy!?!
I chose Green Fiber, but it did not seem to change, even though I clicked on the restart box. Then I tried Arctic Glow, following the directions again, and it worked.
Since many of the themes and add-ons are created by outside programmers, one of the frustrations you may find with Firefox is that sometimes the changes you make don't work. I'm glad that you kept trying though and found something that worked!
Woah. I'm totally jealous that everyone else did this so fast. It took me like an hour. I had to watch the videos twice and kept pausing them every five seconds the second time around. Another thing that probably made me take longer was, when I chose "Acid Burn" for my new Mozilla theme, I misunderstood and thought I had to dump acid all over my face and body to install the theme. Instead, I was simply hospitalized and permanently disfigured.
This web 2.0 stuff can be hard to get the hang of.
I added "Red Cats (Green Flavor)" because it is cute! When the computer is busy, there is a little cat tossing a ball around with its tail...CUTENESS! Also, it is a fairly simple design and I like the shade of green that is used. I like the idea of making the computer as personal as possible...work can be less dreary this way :-)
I choose the Hawaii theme. I am enjoying the rainbow icons.
Well, maybe I didn't try enough, but I found the different themes sort of ugly & mildly disturbing. I guess I don't like a lot of change. Once I learn something I don't like having to learn it again--KISS.
Debbie
This is a good experience for me because I don't like changing things on the computer. I picked blue ice because blue is my favorite color.

Although I love using Firefox, I have to agree with Debbie about the themes. Many of themes I've found are kind of ugly and since I like things to look neat and clean, they are all too busy for me. I'm a much bigger fan of the add-ons available for Firefox. There's even a Sirsi add-on that gives you a little more information when you're searching in Ibistro! That add-on should be added to all staff computers so I recommend checking it out. I believe its called "Easy Record View" and can be found under the Tools menu.
I have the Chihuli (glass blowing) theme. It's fun to change the theme...
I choose "Grand Green". I like the green it makes me feel like spring. I also love the "Irish" twist.
Nice to have a change - Fred
